Varicose Vein Symptoms

What are Varicose Veins?

Varicose veins appear when vein valves become damaged or weakened. These failing vein valves prevent blood from efficiently returning to the heart, causing blood to accumulate in the vein and eventually resulting in the vein’s enlargement. Although this process can affect all veins, varicose veins specifically refer to the larger veins. When smaller veins and capillaries go through a similar process, they are referred to as spider veins.
