Harvest FestivalOctober local events

Traditionally, harvest festivals were annual events held to celebrate the main harvest season and a short respite from long days working in the fields. These celebrations always featured ample food, along with music and other forms of merriment. The tradition continues with the Farmer’s Market Harvest Festival on October 3 from 7 am to 12 pm. Attendees can enjoy live music from the Lee’s Summit Symphony while shopping for fresh, local produce, baked goods, and handmade crafts. For the kids, there is free pumpkin decorating available for the first 100 children in attendance. Join in on this beloved tradition and you can get your grocery shopping and a fun family day out all in one.

Witches Eve

Ready for the witching hour? Very Violet Boutique is a lovely local store filled with beautiful antique furniture and homemade crafts. This year on October 15, the boutique is hosting a ladies shopping night. From 5 pm to 9 pm, local women are invited to head over with friends for shopping, drinks, and lots of cackles. Attendees are encouraged, but not required, to dress up. Spend the evening enjoying “scary punch,” wine, and snacks with your friends. Don’t forget about the shopping–you’ll get to browse through a wonderful selection of fall clothing and accessories, including an exciting trunk show from Encore Boutique. Leave the kids at home and enjoy a much-needed evening out with your friends! Very Violet Boutique is located at 111 SW 2nd St.

Boos, Barks & Badges Halloween Parade

If you’ve never participated in the annual Boos, Barks & Badges Halloween Parade before, this is your year. On Saturday, October 25 from 10 am to 12 pm, families and their dogs are invited to attend this Lee’s Summit tradition. Those who wish to dress up in costumes, including children and dogs, are welcome to join in on the parade from City Hall Plaza to Howard Station Park. Make sure to bring your best costume game because at 11 am in Howard Station Park you’ll have the opportunity to compete in a costume contest. After the parade, participating downtown businesses are hosting a trick-or-treat for local kids. Specialized vehicles from the Lee’s Summit Police Department and Fire Department will also be on display. Don’t forget to stop by the adopt-a-pet station by the Lee’s Summit Animal Control division where you might just find your furry new best friend. This event is truly fun for the whole family.
