Is Laser Hair Removal for You?

Laser hair removal is one of the most common and popular cosmetic procedures in the United States, and for good reason. Many people have unwanted hair growth or wish to avoid the regular hassle of shaving or waxing. Laser hair removal is a unique method of removing unwanted hair that involves focusing beams of highly concentrated light into the hair follicles. That light converts to heat, which is then absorbed by the hair’s pigment, also known as melanin, in the follicle. The heat damages the follicle and prevents more hair from growing. However, this procedure is much more than just magically poofing hair away. It requires a trained medical professional in order to perform the procedure correctly and prevent any damage to the skin.

Find Out if Laser Hair Removal is Right for You

Laser hair removal, while a safe and effective unwanted hair removal option for many, is not the same for everyone. Some people have better results than others. Laser hair removal tends to work most effectively on darker hair, although advanced technology in recent years has improved laser hair removal so that it can be effective on most hair and skin types. It is important to note that laser hair removal is not a one-time treatment. Typically it takes a full course of 3-5 treatments to get full, lasting results. By five treatments, the majority of the unwanted hair should be gone for a long time, if not permanently. Laser hair removal can be done on most parts of the body, including the legs, face, underarms, and bikini area.

Laser hair removal can feel uncomfortable to slightly painful. Many people compare the feeling of the laser to a rubber band snapping against the skin. The sensation can vary depending on the sensitivity of the area of skin getting the treatment.
